Yuck

This morning i tried a new smoothie recipe that consists of carrot juice and frozen mango chunks. It was... Well let's just say that i won't be making that one again. It wasn't particularly offensive, it just wasn't great. So back to old faithful - soy/berry/banana/proteinpowder/greenlightning. Mmmm...

The Deal Breaker

In attempt to see what all the fuss is about, last Monday marked my first day on a vegetarian diet. Thursday marked the end of it. It's not that choosing vegetarian-friendly meals was particularly difficult because it wasn't. Actually i found myself eating more vegetables, which is always a positive. But as I contemplated what I wanted for lunch early Thursday morning, I realized there was one thing and one thing only that would satisfy me - a tuna melt from New World Deli. New World Deli is an adorable local deli on Guadalupe between 38th and 45th. It offers traditional deli fare - soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts, etc. I'm not a huge sandwich fan, so I don't often frequent deli's, but man, i do love me a tuna melt. Something about the creamy tuna salad, melted cheese, fresh tomato, and buttery toasted bread just does for me, and New World Deli's tuna melt is the best i've had. I hope I never learn how many calories is in that thing...

Dinner at "La"

I will never get sick of La Madeleine's tomato basil soup. It's just so delicious and amazing and seriously warms my soul, as ridiculous as that sounds. My soul's needed a bit of warming lately, and so Pony and I had a dinner date at La tonight. It was just as good as I remembered... and worth every calorie.

Oh - you can also by the soup in a jar, but it's really not the same. Plus it's sort of scary to know all the nutritional info...

A Better Caprese

I love love love caprese salad (simple salad of fresh tomato, mozzarella, basil, olive oil, salt and pepper). But being the carbaholic that I am, I often miss having bread with a salad. So the tomato/basil pesto/mozzarella sandwich from Central Market's prepared foods is, for me, absolute perfection. It's ridiculously fresh, affordable, and includes one of my faves - ciabatta.

Wheat Thins Alternative

I am addicted to these "tasty little crackers!" Seriously, i thought my addiction to Wheat Thins was bad (you can't just eat just one, or like... 60), but this is way worse. Maybe it's because I assume that because it's sliiightly healthier, it's okay if i indulge in say, an entire box, over the course of two days? Yeah... i didn't think so. Either way, they are delicious little morsels, and i highly recommend them as a healthier, more wholesome, nuttier alternative to Wheat Thins. You can find them at HEB (in the natural foods section, i believe), Central Market, Wheatsville, and Whole Foods. It's one of the few packaged, processed foods that i allow myself to eat these days - that's how good they are.
P.S. Particularly delicious w/ a light spread of peanut butter (my brand of choice - PB & Co. Crunchy). Yummy........
